The defense budget for 2017 will amount to over 129 billion hryvnias – the NSDC of Ukraine
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine considered the defense budget for 2017 at a meeting on Tuesday.
The Council defined priorities of defense and security policy and the corresponding budgetary resources required to support them. Upon consideration, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was assigned to ensure, within the state budget for 2017, the financing of the defense and security sector in accordance with the National Security Strategy at the level not less than 5% of GDP, which, according to the macroeconomic indicators approved by the Government, will amount to over 129 billion hryvnias.
Moreover, the Complex of measures to counter hybrid threats and major government policies on preventing threats to state sovereignty and restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine were approved in principle at the meeting.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the NSDC of Ukraine will meet again at the end of the week, "to consider the adjustment of the State defense budget in order to increase expenditures on the security and defense sector for the current year". "Also, the use of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) will be considered", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine summarized.
