Greetings of Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov with the Constitution Day of Ukraine

Friends, I sincerely congratulate you with the Constitution Day of Ukraine!

Twenty years ago, at long "constitutional night", the Basic Law of our state was adopted. "Ukraine is a sovereign and independent, democratic, social, legal state", - it is stated in Article 1 of the Constitution.

Yanukovych's attempts to deform the Basic Law as he saw fit, having usurped the power, led to the fall of his regime. Having unleashed the war against us, the Russian Federation is trying not only to breach our defenses in the east but also to strike a blow on the Constitution of Ukraine. They desire to pull out of the Ukrainian Constitution such basic concepts as "freedom", "democracy", "independence" and "unitarity". But they will not manage to deprive us of freedom. And they will suffer total defeat from our Constitution, as well as from our defense.

Only the Ukrainian people has the right to write the history and the Constitution of our state. Ukraine was, is and will be a sovereign democratic unitary state. And any changes to the Basic Law should only strengthen the democratic nature and independence of our country.
