Oleksandr Turchynov: Over the last day, two firefights took place

A meeting of Secretary of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Ukraine Judith Gough took place.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation that has developed in Ukraine, the issue of reforming of security and defense sector and the prospects of cooperation between our countries, particularly, in the issues related to the security sector.

At the request of British Ambassador O.Turchynov elaborated on Russia's methods of waging the hybrid war.

NSDC Secretary also stressed that the Minsk agreements are consistently sabotaged by the Russian party, "in particular, shellings of Ukrainian positions are conducted every day". "Over the last day, apart from shellings, two firefights took place, during which the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have stopped the attempts of terrorists to break through our defense", - he said.

Mr. Turchynov noted that the top political leadership of the Russian Federation destroys the system of collective security and imposes a new paradigm upon the world - a paradigm of force and weapons. "That is why we believe that sanctions against Russia cannot be temporary", - he added.

Also, the interlocutors addressed the issues of reforming of security and defense sector of our country. According to Judith Gough, Great Britain is ready to assist Ukraine on this way, "providing expert and technical support".

Mrs. Ambassador also emphasized that Great Britain will continue to provide support to Ukraine, "and this is Britain's long-term commitment". "We hope that Ukraine will soon become a prosperous country, having preserved its territorial integrity", - she concluded.
