Oleksandr Turchynov: We set a task that the minimum wage of the military was not less than UAH 7,000

In the military budget of Ukraine for 2016, which has been approved by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the basic directions of the National Security Strategy and Military Doctrine of Ukraine are reflected. This was announced by NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov in his interview to "5th channel".

NSDC Secretary emphasized that according to the military budget for 2016, for security and defense of Ukraine 5% of GDP were allocated - about UAH 113 bln. "And directly for the defense near 3% of GDP were allocated", - he said.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, UAH 100 billion out of this amount will be financed from the general fund of the budget, and the rest will be submitted at the expense of special funds and government guarantees. "This is a huge amount of money for our country and this is the minimum, which allows us to confront the aggression", - NSDC Secretary pointed out.

He stressed that salary raise for our military should be provided from these funds, "especially to those who will sign a contract with the Armed Forces or National Guard".

"We set a task that the minimum wage of the military was not less than UAH 7,000. Because otherwise they won't have the motivation to sign a contract", - Oleksandr Turchynov asserted.

NSDC Secretary also added that at the same time Ukraine should rely on its own forces and therefore "we need new weapons, we need to strengthen our air defense, missile potential of our country, in particular, aerospace reconnaissance and so forth. And these assignments will require significant resources." "But in order to repel any other threats this resource yet has to be increased", - he concluded.
