Oleksandr Turchynov: Ukraine needs a powerful missile shield

One of our strategic tasks is to revive our country's missile potential, capable to protect Ukraine from aggression. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov in his congratulation on the Day of missile troops and artillery.

He reminded that Ukraine has always been a rocket state: "Our famous compatriots such as Sergei Korolev, Mikhail Yangel and others laid the foundation of world rocket building".

Therefore, according to Oleksandr Turchynov, the revival of our missile potential "that have been systematically dismantled over the last years" is one of the key priorities, which NSDC takes care of.

"Ukraine has everything for that: technical and industrial potential, scientific developments and a large number of high-level professionals", - he stressed.

NSDC Secretary added that this entails as peaceful space technologies so the development of military programs.

"When we speak of peaceful space technologies, about international cooperation and liaison in this area, then, first of all, it concerns such developments as powerful launch vehicles "Zenit", the most advanced technologies of sea, air and ground launch rocket complexes, etc.", - he said, adding that in conditions of Russia's aggression an extremely important area of focus is development of military missile technologies.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the domestic military-industrial complex should fully satisfy the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with modern missiles, "capable of striking various aboveground, abovewater and air targets: armored vehicles, aircrafts, ships, fortifications and live enemy force, if necessary, inflicting devastating strikes at long distances".

"Only a powerful and reliable missile shield can protect our country against the encroachments of aggressor" - NSDC Secretary concluded.
