Oleksandr Turchynov: the Act on martial law should create conditions for the protection of the country in full-scale war

The Act on martial law may be applied only in case of full-scale military aggression against Ukraine. Such was stated by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov in his interview to the 5th channel.

"In case the Russians unleash hostilities in the east of our country again or attempt to attack us at any point of the border, the martial law will be introduced without delay", - said Oleksandr Turchynov, adding that in such a case the President will submit a respective proposal to the Parliament, "which will immediately meet to adopt an appropriate decision".

The NSDC Secretary stressed that the purpose of the document is to assure the mobilization of country's existing capacity to repel the aggression and to prevent the enemy of undermining the country from inside. "This law aims to create the conditions under which the country would be able to defend itself in the situation of full-scale military threat", - he emphasized.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, now some elements of the martial law are applied only in areas where the counter terrorist operation is taking place - movement restriction, inspection of cargo, transports.
