Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov met with representatives of the “Return Alive” Foundation

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting with representatives of the “Return Alive” Foundation.

First Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, Colonel-General Mykhailo Koval and the Chairman of the Board of the “Return Alive” Foundation Oksana Kolyada.

Representatives of the Foundation presented the results of a comprehensive study “Why servicemen retire from the army?”. Based on qualitative and quantitative analysis, in particular, among servicemen of enlisted, sergeant and junior officer ranks of 15 brigades of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the researchers identified factors influencing the motivation to serve in the military, the level of loyalty among the military to the command and offered recommendations on how to solve existing problems.

The project examined in particular that the key factors for military service are the following: quality of management and leadership, environment, participation in military actions, attitude of the military system, balance of working and personal time, processes and procedures, financial support, housing, self-development and career growth.

According to Mr. Danilov, in the conditions of long-term counteraction to external aggression against our state, the Armed Forces need qualitative changes, in particular, regarding the management culture, decent material support, increasing the prestige of military service. “People who decide to defend the state must have decent conditions. A powerful army is not only about the professional and equipped troops, but also about traditions, values, trust and motivation”, - he said.

In this context, he stressed the importance of adopting the necessary legal acts, especially the Law of Ukraine “On Territorial Defense”, taking into account the conclusions and recommendations of civil society.

Mr. Danilov also noticed that the study conducted by the Foundation should be discussed at an extended meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The parties agreed to further intensify cooperation in this direction.
