First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Ruslan Khomchak met with a delegation of the United States Institute of Peace

First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Colonel General Ruslan Khomchak met with a delegation from the United States Institute of Peace.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the challenges that Ukraine may face in the field of democratic governance in the security and defense sector after the end of a large-scale war, including the functioning of the justice system, the transition from martial law to governance in accordance with democratic principles, military doctrine, guarantees of social protection for war veterans, combating corruption, etc.

According to Philippe Leroux-Martin, Director of Governance, Justice, and Security at the United States Institute of Peace, "it is important that after the war is over, the U.S. government understands how it will help Ukraine overcome the major challenges in the security and defense sector governance system."

"In order to plan any security measures, we need to go back in history and analyze the causes of mistakes. Unfortunately, during 1991-2014, russian agents and russian propaganda were active in Ukraine, and many declarations and promises were not implemented. Therefore, we are now working to avoid repeating mistakes and miscalculations in the future," Ruslan Khomchak, First Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, said.

He emphasized that Ukrainians want to live by civilized laws and principles.

At the same time, Ruslan Khomchak noted that the planning of measures for the post-war development of Ukraine, its security and defense sector, will depend on the results of the war.

He expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the Institute for their important work, which contributes to the realization of Ukraine's European aspirations.
