Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov presented to the parliament draft laws on the extension of martial law for three months and general mobilization

On Sunday, May 22, 2022, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov presented to the parliament draft laws on the extension of martial law for 90 days and conducting general mobilization.

The draft Law of Ukraine "On the Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On the Extension of Martial Law in Ukraine" was developed in accordance with paragraph 20 of the first part of Article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine "On Martial Law ".

It provides for the approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On the Extension of Martial Law in Ukraine", which partially amends Article 1 of the Decree of the President of Ukraine of February 24, 2022, № 64/2022, so that the martial law regime will be prolonged for the period of 90 days starting from 5:30 a.m. on May 25, 2022.

"The issue of extending martial law was considered at the NSDC meeting on the initiative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in agreement with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy", - Mr. Danilov said.

Members of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine considered and in accordance with the requirements of Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine "On the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine" approved the proposal of the Council to extend martial law.

General mobilization measures will continue in Ukraine for 90 days in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine of February 24, 2022, № 65 "On General Mobilization".

According to the NSDC, about 500 000 Ukrainian citizens have been drafted into the Defense Forces, including more than 440 000 - to the Armed Forces, which meets the needs of the Defense Forces to defend the state.

"At the same time, in the context of russia's ongoing full-scale war against our state, there is a need to continue mobilization measures, which will increase the state's defense capabilities and create conditions for the potential success of military operations by the Defense Forces", - he noticed.

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine submitted a proposal to the Head of State to extend general mobilization for 90 days, and the relevant draft law "On the Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On Extending General Mobilization" was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

People's Deputies of Ukraine approved both Decrees of the Head of State.
