Serhiy Demedyuk: In matters of cybersecurity, we should speak the same language

In matters of cybersecurity, we should speak the same language, said Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Serhiy Demedyuk during the round table “Cybersecurity in Ukraine: organizational, legal and technical directions of development”, which took place today in Kyiv.

The event was organized by the National Coordination Center for Cyber Security at the NSDC of Ukraine and the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Mr. Demedyuk stressed the need to define a single, understandable terminology for discussing the organizational and legal foundations of cybersecurity. “We should speak the same language when it comes to cybersecurity, - he said. - It is necessary that cyberspace be clear not only to professionals but also to ordinary citizens who use it daily”.

The NSDC Secretary expressed his conviction that such events should be held not annually, but quarterly, as “cyberspace is constantly evolving”.

At the same time, Mr. Demedyuk stressed that cybersecurity is impossible without cooperation with the private sector and international partners. “It is almost impossible to ensure cybersecurity alone. Classical methods of protection and exchange of information no longer meet the requirements of the time”, - he said adding that direct interaction is crucial, in particular, to effectively repel cyberattacks.

The participants of the round table discussed issues of legal regulation of cybersecurity in Ukraine, protection of critical information infrastructure of the state, role of the Security Service of Ukraine in the national cybersecurity system, interaction, role and limits of competence of key cybersecurity actors, use of specialized information systems and technologies, investigation of cyberattacks and cyber incidents: features, problems and ways to solve them.
