Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine held a working meeting with the Chairman of the Commission on Biosafety and Biological Protection at the NSDC of Ukraine

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a working meeting with Chairman of the Commission on Biosafety and Biological Protection at the NSDC of Ukraine Serhiy Komisarenko.

During the meeting, Mr. Danilov stressed that the Commission should take an active part in the preparation of the draft Strategy for Biosafety and Biological Protection.

The meeting also covered the fight against the spread of acute respiratory disease COVID-19 caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in Ukraine, in particular, in the context of the Commission's participation in measures to address the effects of the epidemic.

The Commission on Biosafety and Biological Protection at the NSDC of Ukraine is a working body of the NSDC and a platform for developing strategic documents in the field of biosafety and biological protection.

The main tasks of the Commission are:

1) analysis of the state of biosafety and biological protection systems;

2) forecasting and identification of potential and real threats of biological origin to the national security of Ukraine;

3) development of conceptual principles and proposals for biosafety and biological protection;

4) generalization of international experience in the field of biosafety and biological protection;

5) preparation of proposals on biosafety and biological protection for the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Presidential Decree of December 10, 2020, № 560 "On the composition of the Commission on Biosafety and Biological Protection under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine" approved the updated composition of the Commission.
