Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov met with the EUAM delegation

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting with a delegation of the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine (EUAM) headed by Antti Hartikainen.

During the meeting, Mr. Danilov expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the mission to Ukraine in all areas of reforming the civil security sector in the difficult conditions of combating the Covid-19 pandemic and external aggression. “Ukraine has defined its movement towards the EU and NATO at the constitutional level, so we must fully meet all the criteria for membership, in particular, in the civil security sector”, - Mr. Danilov noticed.

According to the NSDC Secretary, the new National Security Strategy of Ukraine, enacted on September 14, 2020, by the Decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy № 392, provides for the development of 14 sectorial strategies, including public security and civil protection, human development, information security, cybersecurity, state security, integrated border management strategies and other.

Mr. Danilov stressed that the key issues in the process of reforming the civil security sector and implementing these strategies remain the maximum publicity and openness.

In this context, he informed the EUAM delegation about the recently created an open data web resource created by the Council Staff within the “COTA” information-analytical system to monitor and comprehensively analyze the state of national security on regional development trends, forecast socio-political, economic and social processes at the regional level.

“Thanks to this open part of the “COTA” information-analytical system the maximum amount of high-quality, official public information becomes available to the general public”, - the NSDC Secretary said adding that thanks to this it will be “much easier to make weighted decisions”.

Mr. Danilov stressed the importance of further intensifying practical cooperation with the EUAM, in particular, in cybersecurity and reforming civilian security institutions.

In his turn, the Head of the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine welcomed the adoption of the new National Security Strategy of Ukraine. Mr. Hartikainen also informed the Ukrainian side about the results of the mission’s activities in the current year and expressed readiness to further provide the necessary expert and operational support in particular areas of reform, as well as to deepen practical cooperation in specific projects.
