Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a working meeting with Deputy Prosecutor General Gunduz Mamedov

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a working meeting with Deputy Prosecutor General Gunduz Mamedov.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the state of the investigation by the Criminal Proceedings Supervision Department for crimes committed during the armed conflict of the Prosecutor General’s Office, which is overseen by Deputy Prosecutor General Gunduz Mamedov, of crimes of the aggressor state in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and the Crimea.

According to Mr. Mamedov, it is important to conduct a comprehensive investigation of all war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Russia in the armed conflict over the past 6 years in Ukraine, as well as to prove in national and international courts the implementation by the aggressor state of “effective control” over the temporarily occupied territories.

In his opinion, one of the options to increase the efficiency and objectivity of the trial of severe violations of international humanitarian law may be the establishment of a hybrid court in Ukraine for crimes of the Russian Federation, which may have an international element.

In turn, the NSDC Secretary highly praised the work of the Department, noticing that the collected materials will be key evidence for bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Mr. Danilov expressed his conviction that the territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine will be restored, but not at the cost of losing sovereignty and territories.
