Oleksiy Danilov: Cyber protection of state information resources is an essential component in the process of digital transformation of the country

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stressed the importance of cybersecurity in the process of digital transformation of the state and cyber protection of state electronic information resources during the 14th meeting of the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity, which took place on May 22, this year, with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and intelligence agencies.

“Given the intensification of foreign intelligence services against our state, in particular, the intelligence agencies of the Russian Federation, strengthening cyber protection of state information resources and protection of personal data of Ukrainian citizens from leaks have become a priority of state cybersecurity policy. The situation is complicated by the need for government agencies to work in conditions of remote access during the period of the worldwide battle against the coronavirus threat”, - Head of the NCCC Oleksiy Danilov said.

During the NCCC meeting, the NSDC Secretary also drew the attention of government officials to the unsatisfactory state of security of governmental electronic information resources, registers, databases and other information arrays, and stressed the enhancement of practical cooperation between cybersecurity actors.

“It is important in this process to immediately inform the NCCC about the facts of cyberattacks and cyber incidents on information systems of government agencies, critical infrastructure for coordination of operational response because the consequences of cyberattacks can pose a significant threat to vital interests of the state and society”, - Mr. Danilov underscored and emphasized that this year the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity, as a working body of the NSDC of Ukraine, has successfully localized a number of cyberattacks on state information resources.

As a result of the NCCC meeting, a set of measures was developed to improve the security of national electronic information resources, strengthen the protection of personal data of citizens from leaks, as well as increase the effectiveness of cooperation between cybersecurity actors and improve the regulatory framework in cybersecurity.
