Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the situation in the East of Ukraine in the context of Russia's hybrid aggression. Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine noted that the intensity of the fire and the number of military provocations by the Russian occupational troops had increased significantly recently. "Our positions are fired with the arms prohibited by the Minsk agreements", - he said, adding that the command of troops and units of the security forces within the framework of the Joint Forces Operation "provides an effective counteraction to any military provocations of the Russian occupational troops". Mr. Turchynov also emphasized the importance of preserving the sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and coordinating the counteraction to Russian aggression at the international level.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed further boosting of Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation in the security sector, in particular, intensification of cooperation in the military-technical sphere.

Mr. Shigeki Sumi, in his turn, emphasized that "Japan is interested in deepening bilateral partnership", and assured of his country's readiness to further provide comprehensive support to Ukraine.
