Address of Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov on the occasion of the Kruty Heroes Remembrance Day

One hundred years ago a new page in the history of the Ukrainian liberation movement was written. Courageous young patriots wrote it with their blood, entering into an unequal battle with the Russian-Bolshevik horde and stopping the invasion of Kiev for the critical four days. In this battle, volunteers were defeated, 27 of them were captured and shot.

Then, in the distant 1918, we lost our country for more than 70 years because of discord and lack of unity, but despite this, we saved the spirit of freedom and faith in Ukraine.

Now we are writing new pages of Ukrainian history. And again with blood...Blood of the best sons and daughters of our Homeland. May the memory and honor of the fallen heroes, who gave their lives defending Ukraine, live forever!

Today, like a century ago, Ukrainians are on the cutting edge of saving their country, defending the right of their state to independence and European choice!

Without struggle, freedom is impossible, and the state is impossible without awareness of its value. Therefore, heroism and courage of our warriors, of every Ukrainian, and all of us together, should not leave the occupants a single chance. Step by step, we will liberate our land from the aggressor, we will pass our way to the victorious end!

God is with us, our heroes are with us, the truth is with us, and victory will be with us!
