Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the issues of deepening cooperation between our countries in the sphere of security and defense.

"We appreciate the assistance provided by Japan in reforming the security and defense system of Ukraine", - Oleksandr Turchynov said.

The parties paid particular attention to the situation in the east of Ukraine developed as a result of the hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and to the draft law "On the aspects of state policy of the restoration of Ukraine's state sovereignty over the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions".

"Our task is to ensure effective protection of our country", - Mr. Turchynov emphasized adding that the main aim of this law is to strengthen the format of countering hybrid aggression, to protect citizens who are under occupation, and to liberate the occupied territories.

In his turn, Mr. Sumi stressed that Japan is interested in deepening the partnership between our countries.

"Ukraine is an important partner for us and we are interested in developing cooperation at all levels", - the Ambassador of Japan emphasized.
