Oleksandr Turchynov: The National Guard of Ukraine is capable of reliably protecting the country from external and internal enemies

The National Guard of Ukraine is a powerful military unit with law enforcement functions, capable of reliably protecting the country from external and internal enemies. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov during the expanded meeting of the Military Council of the National Guard of Ukraine, dedicated to solving the priority tasks related to reforming and strengthening the capacity of the NGU to fulfill the constitutional tasks of protecting the country.

According to Mr. Turchynov, the aggression and the hybrid war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine set complex tasks before the NGU, "the completion of which requires strengthening of combat capability, enhancing technical support, and raising the guardians' professionalism". Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine stressed that in addition to modern weapons and equipment, national guardians need both decent wages and housing-communal conditions.

"There cannot be any homeless officers in the guard as well as in the army", - he said adding that it is necessary to create decent working and living conditions for the military. In this context, Oleksandr Turchynov noted that the salary of the military must necessarily be increased.

"Ukrainian officers have become a true elite of our society, and apart from people's respect, they need an appropriate attitude in the issues of budget financing of their priority needs as well", - Secretary of the NSDC summarized.
