Oleksandr Turchynov: Russia will continue an aggressive policy towards neighboring countries, primarily – towards Ukraine

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov is confident that Russia will continue an aggressive policy towards neighboring countries, primarily - towards Ukraine.

In an interview with the special project of "LIGA.net." "War 2017", Mr. Turchynov suggested that Russia may start new aggressive actions against Ukraine due to the events in Syria. According to him, Moscow is not ready for a direct military confrontation with the United States in the Middle East but after recent events, it must give some respond and probably will do this in Ukraine.

At the same time, Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine reminds that the threat of full-scale offensive blow under the flag of the Russian Federation has existed for over three years. "Both three years ago and now we have to rely primarily on ourselves. Our goal is to be ready for any developments and be prepared to protect the country from Russia's full-scale aggression", - he underscored.

Oleksandr Turchynov does not exclude that first, the Kremlin will try to destabilize Kyiv through organizing ostentatious terrorist attacks and supporting radical forces, as well as through using particular Ukrainian media "to implement propagandistic schemes and spread FSB's fakes".

At the same time, Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine believes that these attempts are doomed to failure.

Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine also reminded that the Kremlin leadership considers one of the priorities to restore Russian borders within the former Soviet Union. "This is not concealed, Russian propaganda, secret services, and security forces are working for this. But they have obviously stalled at attempt to return Ukraine to their orbit, which, according to Brzezinski, is the basic element without which it is impossible to resuscitate the empire", - he said.

In Mr. Turchynov's opinion, to achieve its goal, the regime in Moscow is applying technologies of drawing and "hard tying to the orbit of its interests". "Here we have the influence on elections, personnel appointments, financial or energy (gas, oil) doping, deployment of military bases, the establishment of military quasi-union (CSTO - the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan). And in case those countries cross the established line, the leadership replacement scheme will be applied, and if impossible - banal military power", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine noted.

He also said that Russia is continuously trying to increase its influence in the Balkans. Its aggressive policy is also evident in preparing joint exercises of the Russian Federation and Belarus "Zapad 2017", where offensive operations will be worked out. According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the purpose of these exercises is to check the readiness of troops to conduct large-scale operations in conditions of limited time needed for their preparation. "During the exercises, the creation of Kaliningrad corridor in foreseen to be worked out, which in a real operation is impossible without the aggression against Lithuania and Poland", - Mr. Turchynov noted.
