Oleksandr Turchynov: We should promptly respond to any cyber-threats

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting of the National Cybersecurity Center.

The participants of meeting considered the issue of information security in the public sector and critical infrastructure. Also, the protocols of joint activities and real-time information exchange of the cybersecurity entities during detecting cyberattacks and cyberincidents were defined.

According to Mr. Turchynov, the confrontation in cyberspace is a dangerous component of hybrid warfare waged against Ukraine, "therefore, we need to quickly, safely and effectively respond to any cyberthreats, which is impossible without an integration and seamless interaction of all the available resources of cybersecurity entities".

"Apart from working out an effective response to cyberattacks and cyberincidents, we should organize an active protection of cyberspace, creating proper conditions for institutional and technological support of cybersecurity", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine emphasized.

That is why the meeting covered the measures for improving the system of storage, transmission and processing data from state registers and databases using modern information and communication technologies. Special attention was paid to the development of an integrated secure system of public registers, databases, and data centers for processing and backup storage of information and data from public electronic information resources.

The NSDC Secretary stressed that the best equipment and technology "are powerless without proper human potential". "Therefore, preparation of relevant specialists for government entities ensuring cybersecurity is a pressing issue", - he said, adding that such preparation should take place both in Ukraine and abroad "according to the critical tasks our state faces in this crucial area".

In this context, the issue of development of the manpower training system for the needs of government entities ensuring cybersecurity of the country and the development of educational, scientific and research potential of the cybersecurity system was also considered.
