NSDC Secretary of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee General Petr Pavel

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee General Petr Pavel.

In the course of the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the situation in the East of Ukraine, the reforming of the military sector in accordance with the NATO standards and the question of Ukraine's military-technical cooperation with the Alliance.

According to Mr. Turchynov, Russia's actions today are one of the key factors of insecurity both in Europe and worldwide. "The unpunished occupation of the part of the territory of an independent European country and the forceful change of borders established after the World War Two, is a demonstration of Russia's utter disrespect for the international law and of the ineffectiveness of the system of collective security in Europe", - NSDC Secretary of Ukraine stated.

"Ukraine today is the outpost deterring the advance of Russian aggression to the West, therefore strong Ukrainian Army becomes a real factor of European security", - he noted.

"For the third year in a row, despite Russian aggression, we have been restoring the military-technical potential and continuing the reform of the security and defense sector", - NSDC Secretary of Ukraine said, adding that "the major landmark of reforming for us are the NATO standards".

Moreover, he thanked for the invitation of Ukraine to participate in the NATO Summit in Warsaw, having expressed hope that the Warsaw Summit would not only affirm political support of our country, "but also would become the guideline for Ukraine concerning the future accession of membership in the Alliance".

In his turn, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee General Petr Pavel stressed that "the understanding of the importance of relations with Ukraine is growing" in the Alliance.

"We are ready not only to support Ukraine politically, but also we are actively cooperating in all areas of the reforming of the power block", - he noted, adding that Ukraine is moving in the right direction and the Alliance "is ready to further help it on this way".
