Oleksandr Turchynov: The new Police should have entirely new special purpose squad

A special purpose squad "KORD" is being formed in accordance with the new principles that will meet all international standards in terms of training and weapons. This was stated by NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, while on a special purpose troops' training base near Kyiv.

NSDC Secretary visited the base along with the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov on the occasion of completion of training of the instructors of special purpose unit "KORD" by the specialists from the US.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, special purpose unit instructors, who received diplomas today, "would be able to realize the ambitious task - to train troopers of a fundamentally new special purpose police squad "KORD", competitive intake to which MIA has started".

"The new police, that will stand guard over the interests of citizens, should have mobile professionally operating and entirely new special forces", - Oleksandr Turchynov said, adding that the new special purpose units are to be formed on the principles of American SWAT" and will be the main striking force of the police in the fight with organized and armed crime".

In addition, he noted that to the new elite unit first of all those young people, demobilized from the Armed Forces and National Guard, will be invited, "who received training not at the training grounds, but in real combat conditions".

"Our task - to create fundamentally new law enforcement bodies, which should ensure the reliable protection of our citizens, whom Ukrainians will not be afraid of but will respect, trust and fully support", - NSDC Secretary concluded.
