NSDC of Ukraine supported decision to invite UN peacekeeping mission to Ukraine

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine supported decision to appeal to the United Nations and the European Union on the "deployment in Ukraine peacekeeping and security mission". This was announced by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov at a briefing after the meeting of the NSDC of Ukraine.

He noted that this decision was caused by permanent violations of the Russian Federation and its subordinate military units of the ceasefire and heavy weapons withdrawal.

"We can predict that what happens today ‑ intensification of military actions, as it was around Debaltsevo, what is happening now in the sector "M" near Mariupol may have chronic character", ‑ said Oleksandr Turchynov, explaining the decision of the government to invite UN peacekeepers.

The Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine noted that peacekeepers should stand as along the line of contact as uncontrolled sector of the Russian-Ukrainian border. He said it would allow "fixing and isolating violations and also providing real steps of aggression stopping".

Oleksandr Turchynov said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine prepared the request and he expressed hope that the decision of the NSDC of Ukraine would be supported by Members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In addition, Oleksandr Turchynov noted that the bill on amendments into the Law of Ukraine "On the legal regulation of military situation" was adopted at the meeting of the NSDC of Ukraine.
